제주 용수성지

제주 용수성지는 1845년 상해에서 사제 서품을 받은 김대건 신부가 귀국길에 라파엘호를 타고 풍랑을 만나 표착한 곳으로 전해지는 해안이다. 그해 8월 상해 금가항성당에서 서품된 김대건 신부는 페레올 주교와 다블뤼 신부, 신자 선원들과 함께 작은 목선 라파엘호에 올라 조국으로 향했으나, 서해의 거센 폭풍에 돛대가 꺾이고 키를 잃은 채 표류하다 9월 말 이 포구에 닿았다고 전해진다. 일행은 이곳에서 배를 수리한 뒤 다시 바다로 나가 금강 하구의 강경 땅에 상륙했고, 김대건 신부는 이듬해 체포되어 스물다섯의 나이로 새남터에서 순교했다. 작은 목선으로 폭풍의 바다를 건너 조국에 복음을 들고 돌아오던 여정은, 교파를 떠나 복음을 위해 목숨을 건 헌신이 무엇인지 보여준다. 이곳에는 표착을 기념하는 성당과 기념관이 세워져 있고, 실물 크기로 복원된 라파엘호가 당시의 항해를 생생히 증언한다. 개신교 순례자에게는 바울의 풍랑 항해(행 27장)를 떠올리게 하는 장소로, 하나님의 부르심에 순종해 바다를 건넌 이들의 믿음을 묵상하게 한다. 복원된 라파엘호 앞에서 그 작은 배의 크기를 직접 확인해 보면 항해의 무모함과 간절함이 실감난다.
Yongsu Shrine — Jeju Jeju
Yongsu is the shore where Kim Dae-geon (Andrew Kim Taegon), Korea's first Catholic priest, is said to have drifted ashore in 1845 aboard the small boat Raphael after his ordination in Shanghai, its mast broken and rudder lost in the storms of the Yellow Sea. The party repaired the vessel here before sailing on to land near Ganggyeong on the Geum River; Kim was arrested the following year and martyred at twenty-five. A memorial church, museum, and a full reconstruction of the Raphael commemorate the perilous voyage. Standing beside the tiny replica vessel, pilgrims of any tradition can appreciate the costly devotion of those who crossed stormy seas to bring the gospel home—an echo of Paul's own voyage in Acts 27.
