여의도순복음교회

1958년 조용기 전도사와 그의 장모 최자실 전도사가 서울 은평구 대조동의 가난한 동네에서 천막교회로 시작해, 세계 최대 규모의 단일 교회로 성장한 오순절 교회다. 전쟁의 폐허와 가난, 질병 속에서 절망하던 이들에게 두 전도자는 치유하시고 축복하시는 좋으신 하나님을 전했고, 새벽마다 울리는 간절한 기도 소리와 함께 교회는 폭발적으로 성장했다. 성도들을 소그룹으로 묶어 돌보는 구역 조직은 교회 성장의 모델로 세계 교회에 알려졌으며, 조용기 목사의 희망의 메시지는 수많은 나라에 전해졌다. 1973년 여의도 모래벌판에 대성전을 세워 옮겨 왔고, 같은 해 국제 오순절 대회를 열며 세계 오순절 운동의 중심 가운데 하나가 되었다. 수십만 성도가 출석하는 교회가 된 뒤에는 국내외 선교사 파송과 구제, 심장병 어린이 수술 지원 같은 사회 사역으로 받은 은혜를 흘려보내 왔다. 가난한 천막에서 시작된 공동체가 세계 선교의 발신지가 된 여정은 성령의 역사와 간절한 기도의 능력을 증언한다. 주일이면 수만 명이 대성전과 부속 성전에서 함께 드리는 예배의 규모를 직접 체험해 보는 것 자체가 이곳 방문의 백미다. 한강과 국회의사당이 이웃한 여의도의 풍경 속에서, 폐허의 시대를 지나온 한국 교회 부흥의 역사를 떠올려 보자.
Yoido Full Gospel Church — Seoul Yeongdeungpo-gu
Yoido Full Gospel Church began in 1958 as a tent church in a poor Seoul neighborhood, led by evangelist Cho Yong-gi (David Yonggi Cho) and his mother-in-law Choi Ja-shil, and grew into the largest single congregation in the world. To people crushed by war, poverty, and sickness they preached a good God who heals and blesses, and the church grew explosively on a foundation of dawn prayer; its cell-group system of pastoral care became a model studied by churches worldwide. In 1973 the congregation moved to its great sanctuary on Yeouido, becoming a center of the global Pentecostal movement, and has since poured itself into world missions and works of compassion such as heart surgery for children. Experiencing a Sunday service with tens of thousands worshiping together is itself the highlight of a visit.
