Synagogue Church, Nazareth — Nazareth
Tucked inside Nazareth's old market lanes, the modest stone Synagogue Church dates to about 1200 in the Crusader era and is cared for by the Melkite Greek Catholic community. Tradition holds this as the site of the Nazareth synagogue Jesus attended, and a pilgrim already mentioned it around 570. Its Gospel significance is immense: in Luke 4:16-30 Jesus stood in the synagogue on the Sabbath, read from Isaiah 61, and declared, 'Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing' (Luke 4:21)—yet His townspeople rejected Him and dragged Him toward a cliff. Honestly, the exact spot of the first-century synagogue is unconfirmed, though Nazareth was clearly the setting.
