엘 쿠베이베 엠마오 (성 글로바 교회)

St. Cleophas Church, Emmaus El-Qubeibeh — Al-Qubeiba
St. Cleophas Church at El-Qubeibeh, in a West Bank village about 11 kilometers northwest of Jerusalem, is the Emmaus candidate favored by the Franciscans. This distance fits the '60 stadia' of some Luke 24:13 manuscripts. The Crusaders built a church here in 1099, and the village preserves remains traditionally held to be 'the house of Cleophas.' The present church, rebuilt in 1902 over that older site, commemorates the meeting of the risen Jesus with the two disciples. As with the other candidates, that this is the true Emmaus is one competing tradition, not settled fact. Being in the West Bank, the village requires checking access and local conditions before a visit. More than deciding which site is genuine, treasure the Gospel core: the Lord bearing witness through all Scripture and known in the breaking of bread.
