솔뫼성지
솔뫼성지는 1821년 한국 최초의 가톨릭 사제 성 김대건 안드레아 신부가 태어난 충남 당진의 생가터 성지다. '소나무 산'이라는 이름 그대로 아름드리 솔숲에 둘러싸인 이곳은 증조부 김진후가 해미에서 순교한 것을 비롯해 4대에 걸쳐 순교자를 배출한 신앙 가문의 터전으로, '한국의 베들레헴'이라 불리기도 한다. 김대건의 아버지 김제준 역시 1839년 기해박해 때 순교했고, 소년 김대건은 열다섯에 신학생으로 선발되어 마카오로 떠난 뒤 1845년 상해에서 사제가 되어 돌아왔으나 이듬해 스물다섯의 나이로 새남터에서 순교했다. 복원된 생가와 기념관, 솔숲의 야외 조형물들이 그의 생애와 초기 한국 천주교의 신앙을 전하며, 2014년 프란치스코 교황이 이곳을 방문하면서 더욱 널리 알려졌다. 한 가정에서 대를 이어 전수된 신앙이 조선 교회의 첫 사제를 길러냈다는 사실은, 개신교 순례자에게도 디모데에게 이른 '외조모 로이스와 어머니 유니게의 믿음'(딤후 1:5)을 떠올리게 한다. 순교를 각오하고도 믿음을 물려준 부모와 그 믿음을 받아 목숨으로 꽃피운 아들의 이야기가 솔숲 곳곳에 배어 있다. 솔숲 산책로를 따라 걸으며 세대를 잇는 신앙 유산을 묵상하기 좋다.
Solmoe Shrine — Chungnam Dangjin-si
Solmoe, meaning 'pine hill,' is the birthplace of St. Andrew Kim Dae-geon (b. 1821), Korea's first Catholic priest, born into a family that produced martyrs across four generations—his great-grandfather died for the faith at Haemi and his father in the persecution of 1839—earning the site the name 'Bethlehem of Korea.' Chosen as a seminarian at fifteen, Kim studied in Macau, was ordained in Shanghai in 1845, and was martyred at twenty-five the following year. The restored birth home, memorial hall, and pine-shaded sculpture grounds gained wider fame when Pope Francis visited in 2014. The site speaks powerfully of faith handed down through a household—like the faith of Lois and Eunice that shaped Timothy (2 Tim 1:5)—and the pine-forest walk invites unhurried reflection on the inheritance we pass on.
