찌포리 (세포리스) 국립공원

찌포리(세포리스)는 나사렛에서 북서쪽으로 약 6km 떨어진 로마·비잔틴 시대의 대도시 유적으로, 예수 시대에는 헤롯 안티파스가 재건한 갈릴리의 수도였다. 나사렛의 목수(건축 장인)였던 요셉과 예수가 이 큰 건설 현장에서 일했을 가능성을 학자들이 제기하지만, 성경이 이를 명시하지는 않으므로 어디까지나 배경적 추정으로 이해해야 한다. 또한 이곳은 마리아의 부모 요아킴과 안나의 고향이라는 전승도 있어, 십자군은 이를 기려 성 안나 교회를 세웠다. 유적에는 '갈릴리의 모나리자'로 불리는 아름다운 여인 초상 등 정교한 로마 시대 모자이크와, 황도 십이궁이 새겨진 고대 회당 바닥 모자이크가 남아 있어 3~5세기 유대·로마 문화의 융합을 생생히 보여 준다. 정직하게 말하면 이곳은 예수의 특정 사건과 직접 연결된 성지는 아니다. 그러나 개신교 순례자에게는 예수께서 자라나신 1세기 갈릴리의 도시 문명과 사회 배경을 이해하는 귀한 창이 되며, 나사렛의 소박함과 대도시의 화려함을 나란히 견주어 보게 한다. 방문 팁: 모자이크와 지하 저수 시설을 놓치지 말라.
Sepphoris (Zippori) National Park — Sepphoris
Sepphoris (Zippori), about 6km northwest of Nazareth, is a great Roman-Byzantine city ruin that in Jesus' day was the capital of Galilee, rebuilt by Herod Antipas. Scholars suggest Joseph and Jesus, craftsmen of Nazareth, may have worked on this large building site, but since Scripture does not state this, it should be taken as background inference only. Tradition also names it the hometown of Mary's parents, Joachim and Anne, and the Crusaders built the Church of St. Anne to honor this. The site preserves fine Roman mosaics, including a lovely female portrait dubbed the 'Mona Lisa of Galilee,' and an ancient synagogue floor mosaic with a zodiac, vividly displaying the blend of Jewish and Roman culture in the 3rd-5th centuries. Honestly, this is not a holy site tied to a specific event in Jesus' life, but for Protestant pilgrims it is a valuable window into the urban world of first-century Galilee where Jesus grew up.
