오브라도이로 광장은 카미노 데 산티아고의 상징적 종착점이다. 지금의 웅장한 모습은 17~18세기에 완성되었으며, 대성당의 화려한 바로크 정면(Fachada do Obradoiro)과 마주 보는 이 넓은 돌 광장은 사방이 라호이 궁, 산 헤로니모 대학, 오스탈 등 역사적 건물로 둘러싸여 있다. 수백, 때로는 수천 킬로미터를 걸어온 순례자들이 마지막 골목을 지나 이 광장에 들어서는 순간, 배낭을 벗어 던지고 차가운 돌바닥에 그대로 주저앉아 하늘로 솟은 대성당의 정면을 말없이 올려다보는 곳이 바로 여기다. 눈물을 쏟는 이도, 낯선 순례 동무를 오래 껴안는 이도, 그저 대자로 누워 침묵하는 이도 있다. 도착의 벅찬 감격과 걸어온 여정의 무게가 한꺼번에 밀려드는 자리다. 사도 야고보의 유해나 대성당 내부의 예배보다 앞서, 이 광장의 돌바닥에서 순례는 이미 마음으로 먼저 끝난다. 오래 사모하던 것 앞에 설 때 인간은 설명이 아니라 침묵과 경외로 응답하며, 도착이 끝이 아니라 감사의 시작임을 깨닫는다. 방문 팁: 정오 순례자 미사 전후로 가장 붐비며, 이른 아침이나 저녁에는 광장이 한결 고요하다. 사방 건물의 내력을 읽으며 천천히 한 바퀴 돌아보라.
Praza do Obradoiro — Galicia (A Coruña)
The Praza do Obradoiro is the symbolic end of the Camino de Santiago. Its grand present form was completed in the 17th-18th centuries, and this broad stone square, facing the cathedral's ornate Baroque façade (Fachada do Obradoiro), is ringed by historic buildings — the Pazo de Raxoi, the old university, and the Hostal. The moment pilgrims who have walked hundreds, sometimes thousands, of kilometers pass the last alley and step into the square, they drop their packs and sink onto the cold pavement, gazing up in silence at the soaring front. Some weep, some embrace fellow pilgrims long, some simply lie sprawled and still. Here the joy of arrival and the weight of the journey rush in together. Before the relics of the apostle James or the Mass inside, on these stones the pilgrimage has already ended in the heart. Standing before what we long yearned for, we answer not with explanation but with silence and awe, realizing arrival is not an ending but the start of thanksgiving. Tip: it is busiest around the noon pilgrim Mass; early morning and evening are far quieter. Walk the square slowly, reading the story of each surrounding building.
