오산리최자실기념금식기도원

오산리최자실기념금식기도원은 1973년 최자실 목사가 경기도 파주 오산리에 세운 금식기도원으로, 세계 최대 규모의 기도원으로 꼽히며 한국 기도원 운동을 대표하는 곳이다. 최자실은 사위 조용기 목사와 함께 여의도순복음교회를 일으킨 인물로, 도시 교회의 성장과 더불어 성도들이 깊은 기도로 나아갈 자리가 필요함을 절감해 허허벌판이던 이곳에 천막을 치고 기도원을 시작했다. 이곳에서 일어난 금식과 철야, 통성기도의 뜨거운 물결은 한국교회 특유의 간절한 기도 영성을 낳았고, 나아가 세계 오순절·복음주의 운동에도 큰 영향을 끼쳤다. 수많은 성도들이 민족의 위기와 개인의 절망, 질병과 시련 속에서 이 산에 올라 밤을 새워 부르짖었고, 지금도 국내외에서 순례자들이 기도의 자리를 찾아 이곳을 찾는다. 한국교회 부흥의 참된 동력이 화려한 프로그램이나 조직이 아니라 무릎 꿇고 부르짖는 기도였음을 확인하게 하는 곳이다. 산자락에 마련된 개인 기도굴에 들어가 잠시라도 세상 소리를 끄고 침묵과 기도의 시간을 가져 보기를 권한다.
Osanri Choi Ja-sil Memorial Fasting Prayer Mountain — Gyeonggi Paju-si
Founded in 1973 by Rev. Choi Ja-sil at Osanri, Paju, this is one of the world's largest fasting prayer retreats and the flagship of Korea's prayer mountain movement. Choi, who together with her son-in-law Rev. David Yonggi Cho built Yoido Full Gospel Church, sensed that a growing urban congregation needed a place to press into deep prayer, and pitched a tent to begin the retreat on what was then bare land. The waves of fasting, all-night vigils, and fervent audible prayer that rose here shaped Korean Christianity's distinctive spirituality of earnest prayer and influenced the global Pentecostal and evangelical movements. Countless believers have climbed this mountain to cry out through the night amid national crisis, personal despair, sickness, and trial, and pilgrims from home and abroad still come seeking a place to pray. It witnesses that the true engine of Korea's revival was not programs but prayer on bended knee; step into one of the hillside prayer grottoes for a few minutes of silence.
