남전교회

Namjeon Church — Jeonbuk Iksan-si
Founded in 1897, Namjeon Church is the mother church of the Iksan area and a precious fruit that early Presbyterian mission in Honam bore in a country village. Planted in the midst of farmland rather than a city, it became the region's mother church, giving rise to many churches and schools around it and planting learning and national consciousness together with the gospel. Unforgettable in its history is the April 4th independence demonstration of 1919, led by its members. That day's uprising was fierce enough to cost several their lives, as ordinary members of a country church, bearing courage forged by faith, took to the streets at the risk of death. Before the church today stands a memorial to those who died that day, testifying to how faith led on into love of country. A faith that loves neighbors and raises its voice for the oppressed truly blossomed in this small rural church.
