마산 문창교회

Munchang Church, Masan — Gyeongnam Masanhappo-gu
Established in 1901 as the mother church of the Masan area, Munchang Church is well known as the place where the martyr Rev. Ju Ki-cheol ministered before his call to Pyongyang. Planted early in the open port city, it became the root of regional faith and the parent of many congregations. Its members marched at the front of the 1919 independence demonstrations, and the church later anchored resistance to Shinto shrine worship across South Gyeongsang. The convictions Ju forged in this pulpit would bear fruit in his famous resolve to die rather than bow to idols — making this congregation a living chapter of Korean Protestant history.
