길보아 산

길보아 산은 이스르엘 평야 동편에 길게 뻗은 능선으로, 오늘날에는 자연보호구역으로 지정되어 있다. 이곳은 이스라엘 초대 왕 사울의 비극이 서린 자리다. 사무엘상 31장과 역대상 10장에 따르면 사울과 그의 아들들, 특히 다윗의 벗 요나단이 블레셋과의 전투에서 이 산에서 전사했다. 그 소식을 들은 다윗은 사무엘하 1장 19~27절에서 저 유명한 애가를 불렀다. Mount Gilboa — Mount Gilboa
Mount Gilboa is a long ridge on the eastern side of the Jezreel Valley, today designated a nature reserve. It is the place steeped in the tragedy of Saul, Israel's first king. According to 1 Samuel 31 and 1 Chronicles 10, Saul and his sons, especially David's friend Jonathan, fell here in battle against the Philistines. Hearing the news, David sang his famous lament in 2 Samuel 1:19-27: 'Your glory, O Israel, is slain on your high places! How the mighty have fallen!' In grief he even cursed the hills: 'O mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew or rain upon you.' At the foot lies En Harod (the Spring of Gideon), where in Judges 7 Gideon sifted his three hundred men by the way they drank. Honestly, the mountain is not a worship site, but as a stage of Old Testament history it runs deep. In spring, red wildflowers and the native Gilboa iris adorn the ridge.
