미리내성지
미리내성지는 한국인 최초의 사제 성 김대건 안드레아 신부가 1846년 새남터에서 스물다섯의 나이로 순교한 뒤, 그의 유해가 옮겨져 안장되었던 안성의 깊은 산골 교우촌이다. '미리내'는 은하수를 뜻하는 우리말로, 박해를 피해 숨어든 신자들이 밤이면 밝힌 호롱불이 골짜기를 따라 은하수처럼 보였다는 데서 유래했다고 전해진다. 김대건 신부의 시신은 새남터 형장에 방치되었으나, 열일곱 소년 이민식을 비롯한 신자들이 목숨을 걸고 관헌의 눈을 피해 유해를 거두어 백오십 리 험한 산길을 밤에만 걸어 이곳까지 옮겨 안장했다. 죽음의 위협 앞에서도 스승의 시신을 지켜낸 이들의 이야기는, 죽음도 꺾지 못한 믿음의 공동체가 어떤 것인지를 생생히 보여 준다. 순교의 증언 앞에서는 교파를 넘어 숙연해지기에, 개신교 순례자에게도 신앙의 절개와 사랑을 배우는 자리가 된다. 경당과 김대건 신부 묘, 그 어머니 고 우르술라의 묘까지 이어지는 계곡 길이 아름다워 걷기 순례로 특히 사랑받는다. 옛 경당 앞에서 골짜기를 가득 채웠을 교우촌의 불빛을 상상하며 잠시 머물러 보자.
Mirinae Shrine — Gyeonggi Anseong-si
This remote mountain valley in Anseong, whose name means 'Milky Way,' was a hidden village of persecuted Catholics and the first burial place of St. Andrew Kim Dae-geon, Korea's first native priest, after his martyrdom at age twenty-five at Saenamteo in 1846. The name is said to come from the lamplights of the hidden believers, which glowed through the valley like a river of stars. When Kim's body was left at the execution ground, believers including the seventeen-year-old Yi Min-sik risked their lives to recover it and carried it by night over some sixty kilometers of rough mountain trail to bury it here. Their story of guarding their teacher's body in the face of death shows a faith community that death could not break — sobering for pilgrims of any tradition. The beautiful valley walk to the chapel and the graves of Kim and his mother is among Korea's most beloved pilgrimage paths.
