Mary's Well (Ain Maryam) — Nazareth
Mary's Well was for centuries the communal well shared by the people of Nazareth, fed through an underground channel from the spring beneath the nearby Greek Orthodox Church of St. Gabriel. The stone fountain standing in the plaza today is a commemorative structure rebuilt for the Jubilee in 2000, not the ancient well itself. What makes this spot meaningful is not some dramatic miracle tradition. Because Nazareth had only this one natural spring, it is virtually certain as a matter of daily life that Mary and the Holy Family drew water here. So, apart from any specific miracle, the place connects naturally to the ordinary living of Jesus and His family. Honestly, the present fountain is a recent memorial and the water course has been re-engineered, yet the significance of the location endures.
