오소르노 루터교회
오소르노 시내 마누엘 안토니오 마타 거리에 자리한 이 루터교회는 칠레 남부와 아르헨티나를 통틀어 가장 오래된 개신교 공동체로 꼽힌다. 19세기 중반 독일 이민 물결을 타고 정착한 약 50가구의 개척 가정들이 신앙의 뿌리를 내렸고, 1863년 첫 운영위원회가 꾸려지면서 공동체로서의 틀을 갖추었다. 1867년 프란츠 렌츠 목사가 첫 예배당의 초석을 놓았는데, 그 흔적 일부는 지금도 오소르노 독일인 묘지에 보존되어 있어 초기 이민자들의 신앙과 죽음을 함께 증언한다. 본당은 1897년 4월 11일에 완공되어 봉헌되었고, 1913년에는 27미터 높이의 종탑이 더해져 도시의 스카이라인 일부가 되었다. 지금의 성전은 1953년에 봉헌된 건물이다. 1905년부터 1933년까지 시무한 헤르만 콕 목사는 전기 조명을 도입하고 독일 보훔에서 주조한 종을 들여왔으며, 2003년부터 2017년까지 시무한 알렉시스 살가도 목사는 훗날 칠레 루터교회 주교로 선출되었다. 1907년 칠레 최초의 루터교 총회가 열릴 때 창립 교회 중 하나로 참여한 이 공동체는, 오소르노 대성당으로 대표되는 가톨릭 전통과 나란히 이 도시에 뿌리내린 또 하나의 신앙 유산이다. 방문 시에는 인근 독일인 묘지까지 함께 둘러보면 이민 공동체의 삶과 죽음이 어떻게 신앙 안에서 이어졌는지 더 깊이 느낄 수 있다.
Lutheran Church of Osorno — Osorno
Standing on Manuel Antonio Matta Street in downtown Osorno, this Lutheran church is considered the oldest Protestant community in southern Chile and Argentina. About fifty pioneer German families, part of the mid-19th-century immigration wave, laid its roots, and a founding board formed in 1863. In 1867 Pastor Franz Renz laid the cornerstone of the first chapel, remnants of which are still preserved at the German Cemetery of Osorno. The main sanctuary was completed and consecrated on April 11, 1897, and a 27-meter bell tower was added in 1913. The present temple was consecrated in 1953. Pastor Hermann Kock (1905-1933) introduced electric lighting and bells cast in Bochum, Germany, while Pastor Alexis Salgado (2003-2017) later became Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Chile. As a founding member of Chile's first Lutheran Synod in 1907, this congregation stands as the Protestant counterpart to the Catholic heritage embodied in Osorno's cathedral. Visitors are encouraged to also visit the nearby German cemetery to sense how life and death were woven together in this immigrant community's faith.
