레온 대성당

레온 대성당(정식 명칭 산타 마리아 데 레글라)은 13세기부터 프랑스풍 고딕 양식으로 지어졌으며, '아름다운 레온의 여인(Pulchra Leonina)' 그리고 '빛의 집(La Casa de la Luz)'이라 불린다. 13~15세기의 중세 스테인드글라스가 약 1,800㎡에 이르러 상당 부분 원형 그대로 보존되어 있는데, 이는 세계적으로도 희귀한 규모다. 이곳에서는 벽이 창을 대신한다 — 구조를 극한까지 밀어붙여 벽면을 색유리로 채운 것이다. 이는 '빛은 곧 하나님의 임재'라는 중세 신학을 건축으로 번역한 결과로, 성전 안으로 쏟아지는 색색의 빛은 예배자를 천상의 빛 가운데로 이끈다. 개신교 순례자에게 이 빛은 '하나님은 빛이시라 그에게는 어둠이 조금도 없으시다'(요일 1:5)는 말씀을 눈으로 확인하는 자리다. 화려한 형상 너머, 참빛으로 오신 그리스도를 묵상하라. 방문 팁: 맑은 날 오후, 햇빛이 서쪽·남쪽 창을 통과할 때 색유리가 가장 찬란하다. 내부는 유료이며 조명 안내가 있다.
León Cathedral — León
León Cathedral (Santa María de Regla), built from the 13th century in French Gothic, is called Pulchra Leonina and 'the House of Light.' Its 13th-15th-century medieval stained glass covers some 1,800 square metres, much of it original, a rarity worldwide. Here walls give way to windows: the structure is pushed to its limit so that coloured glass fills the walls. This translates into architecture the medieval theology that light is the presence of God, drawing worshippers into heavenly radiance. For Protestant pilgrims this light lets the eye confirm that 'God is light and in him is no darkness at all' (1 John 1:5). Beyond the images, meditate on Christ the true Light. Tip: on a clear afternoon the western and southern glass blaze most brilliantly; entry is ticketed.
