임자진리교회
신안 임자도의 임자진리교회는 '섬 선교의 어머니' 문준경 전도사의 전도로 1930년대에 세워진 성결교회로, 한국 개신교의 대표적 순교 성지다. 6.25 전쟁 중이던 1950년 10월, 이판일 장로를 비롯한 교인 48명이 신앙을 버리라는 강요를 끝내 거부하고 집단 순교했으며, 그 가운데는 이판일 장로의 노모부터 어린 손자까지 일가 열세 명이 포함되어 있었다. 당시 목포에 있어 화를 면한 아들 이인재는 복수 대신 용서를 택했고, 훗날 목사가 되어 가해자들을 회심으로 이끌며 그 섬에서 다시 복음을 전했다. 원수를 사랑하라는 계명이 실제 역사가 된 이 이야기는 한국 교회가 가진 가장 귀한 신앙 유산 가운데 하나로 꼽힌다. 교회 곁에는 순교 기념 공간이 마련되어 48인의 이름을 기리고 있다. 증도의 문준경 순교 사적과 함께 돌아보면 신안 섬 지역에 뿌려진 복음의 씨앗과 열매를 온전히 만날 수 있다. 이름 하나하나를 소리 내어 읽으며, 죽음 앞에서도 놓지 않은 믿음을 마음에 새겨 보라.
Imja Jinri Church — Jeonnam Sinan
Imja Jinri Church on Imja Island, planted in the 1930s through the ministry of the island evangelist Mun Jun-gyeong, became one of Korean Protestantism's foremost martyrdom sites. In October 1950, during the Korean War, forty-eight believers — including thirteen members of elder Yi Pan-il's family, from his aged mother to young grandchildren — were killed together for refusing to renounce their faith. Yi's son Yi In-jae, spared because he was in Mokpo, chose forgiveness over revenge, later returning as a pastor who led the perpetrators to Christ. A memorial beside the church honors the forty-eight by name; visiting together with Mun Jun-gyeong's sites on Jeungdo completes the story of the gospel among the Sinan islands.
