하우현성당
하우현성당은 청계산과 광교산 사이 산골 교우촌에 세워진 성당으로, 본당의 뿌리는 1893년 무렵으로 거슬러 올라간다. 이 일대는 박해 시대 신자들이 관헌의 눈을 피해 산속으로 숨어들어 옹기를 굽고 화전을 일구며 신앙을 지킨 피난처였다. 1906년 프랑스인 신부의 지도로 지어진 사제관은 화강석 몸체에 초가 지붕을 얹은 매우 독특한 건물로, 서양식 석조와 한국 전통 초가가 한 지붕 아래 만난 진귀한 사례로 손꼽혀 경기도 기념물로 지정되어 있다. 돌벽에 초가를 얹은 사제관의 모습은 서양 선교사의 삶이 한국 산골의 가난한 살림과 하나가 된 흔적으로, 낮은 곳으로 스스로 내려온 성육신적 선교를 건축 그 자체로 보여 준다. 화려함 없이 신앙의 본질만 남은 산골 공동체의 경건은, 검소함 속에서 참된 예배를 찾는 개신교 순례자에게도 잔잔한 울림을 준다. 계곡을 따라 오르는 조용한 길과 소박한 성당, 그리고 초가 사제관이 어우러진 풍경이 정겹다. 성당 뒤편 초가 사제관의 돌벽과 지붕 이엉을 가까이서 살펴보며, 낮은 자리로 내려온 복음의 겸손을 묵상해 보자.
Hawuhyeon Catholic Church — Gyeonggi Uiwang-si
Nestled in a mountain valley between Cheonggyesan and Gwanggyosan, Hawuhyeon Church traces its parish roots to around 1893, serving a village where persecuted Catholics survived in hiding by making pottery and farming burnt fields. Its 1906 rectory — a granite-walled building crowned with a thatched roof, raised under a French priest — is a rare instance of Western stonework and Korean thatch meeting under one roof, and is a Gyeonggi Province monument. Stone walls beneath straw testify to Western mission life fused with the poverty of a Korean mountain hamlet, an incarnational witness in the building itself.
