한티순교성지
한티순교성지는 팔공산 중턱 해발 600미터의 험준한 산골에 형성된 교우촌으로, 1866년 병인박해 때 마을 신자들이 대거 순교한 곳이다. 세상에서 쫓겨난 신자들은 이 높은 산에 올라 숯을 굽고 척박한 땅을 일구며 화전을 부쳐 겨우 목숨을 이었지만, 그렇게 산꼭대기까지 쫓겨 올라가서도 끝내 신앙을 버리지 않았다. 박해의 칼날이 이 깊은 산까지 닥쳤을 때 많은 이들이 그 자리에서 순교했고, 가까스로 살아남은 이들은 순교자들의 시신을 그들이 살던 자리 곳곳에 묻었다. 그리하여 이름조차 알 수 없는 37기의 순교자 묘가 옛 마을 터 그대로 산등성이에 흩어져 남아 있다. 이름 없이 스러졌으나 하늘에는 그 이름이 새겨진 이 믿음의 사람들 앞에서, 순례자는 '세상이 감당하지 못하는' 이들을 만나게 된다. 개신교 순례자에게도 히브리서 11장이 노래하는 믿음의 증인들을 실물로 마주하는 듯한 곳이다. 순교자 묘역 사이로 난 순례길을 걸으며 이름 없는 무덤 하나하나에 조용히 눈길을 주어 보라.
Hanti Martyrs' Shrine — Gyeongbuk Chilgok-gun
High on the slopes of Palgongsan at 600 meters, Hanti was a Catholic village whose inhabitants were massacred in the great persecution of 1866. Driven from the world, the believers climbed this high mountain to burn charcoal and scratch a living from the barren soil — yet even chased to the summit they would not renounce their faith. When the persecution reached even this remote height, many were martyred where they stood, and the few survivors buried the martyrs' bodies where they had lived. So 37 unnamed graves remain scattered across the ridge on the site of the old village. Before these people of faith, nameless on earth but written in heaven, the pilgrim meets those 'of whom the world was not worthy.' For Protestants too, it is like coming face to face with the witnesses of Hebrews 11. Walk the pilgrimage path among the graves and give each nameless mound a moment's quiet attention.
