한경직목사기념관 (우거처)

이곳은 영락교회를 설립하고 1992년 한국인 최초로 종교계의 노벨상이라 불리는 템플턴상을 수상한 한경직 목사(1902~2000)가 만년을 보낸 남한산성의 소박한 거처를 보존한 기념 공간이다. 평안북도 출신인 한경직은 미국 유학 후 신의주에서 목회하다 해방과 분단의 격변 속에 월남해, 1945년 서울에서 피난민들과 함께 베다니전도교회를 세웠으니 이것이 오늘의 영락교회다. 그는 이 교회를 한국 최대의 장로교회로 일구고 숱한 학교와 복지기관을 세웠지만, 정작 평생 자기 집 한 채, 통장 하나, 재산이라 할 것을 남기지 않고 청빈하게 살았다. 템플턴상 상금 역시 북한 선교와 사회사업에 모두 내놓았다. 열여덟 평 남짓한 이 우거처에 남은 낡은 지팡이와 겨울 털모자, 휠체어는 "내게는 가진 것이 없어 남길 것도 없습니다"라던 그의 고백을 그대로 보여 준다. 성공한 목회자가 어떻게 무소유의 삶으로 복음을 증언할 수 있는지를 묻게 하는, 한국 개신교의 소중한 순례지다. 방 안에 그대로 놓인 소박한 유품들을 하나하나 눈에 담으며, 크게 쓰임받고도 낮아진 한 종의 삶을 돌아보자.
Han Kyung-chik Memorial (Namhansanseong) — Gyeonggi Gwangju-si
This humble cottage at Namhansanseong preserves the final dwelling of Rev. Han Kyung-chik (1902-2000), founder of Youngnak Presbyterian Church and the first Korean to receive the Templeton Prize in 1992. Born in North Pyongan and educated in the United States, Han fled south amid the upheaval of liberation and division, gathering refugees in 1945 into the congregation that became Youngnak — grown under him into one of the world's largest Presbyterian churches, alongside many schools and charities he founded. Yet he lived and died owning no house, no bank account, no property, giving even his Templeton Prize money to mission and social work. His worn cane, winter cap, and wheelchair remain in the tiny room as testimony to a life of evangelical simplicity, asking what it means for a greatly used minister to preach the gospel through possessing nothing.
