황금 문 (자비의 문)

성전산 동쪽 벽에 있는 유일한 문으로, 기드론 골짜기 건너 감람산을 정면으로 마주 봅니다. 이 문에는 종말론적 기대가 두텁게 얽혀 있습니다. 유대 전승은 메시아가 감람산에서 내려와 바로 이 동문을 통해 예루살렘에 입성하리라 기대해 왔고, 기독교인은 예수께서 종려주일에 나귀를 타고 성에 들어오신 사건(마 21) 및 다시 오심과 이 문을 연결해 묵상합니다. 오스만 제국의 술레이만 1세는 1541년 이 문을 돌로 완전히 봉인했는데, 메시아의 입성을 막으려 했다는 전승이 널리 퍼져 있습니다. 문 바깥 언덕에는 이슬람 공동묘지가 자리해 있습니다. 오늘날 이 문은 안팎 모두 닫혀 있어 실제 통행은 불가능하며, 감람산이나 기드론 골짜기, 성전산 동쪽 성벽 길에서 봉인된 두 아치를 바라보는 조망 순례만 가능합니다.
Golden Gate (Gate of Mercy) — Jerusalem
The only gate in the eastern wall of the Temple Mount, facing the Mount of Olives across the Kidron Valley. Rich eschatological hope clings to it. Jewish tradition long expected the Messiah to descend from the Mount of Olives and enter through this very eastern gate, while Christians link it to Jesus' Palm Sunday entry (Matt 21) and His return. In 1541 the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman sealed the gate with stone, and tradition widely holds it was to block the Messiah's entry. A Muslim cemetery lies on the slope outside. Today the gate is closed on both sides and cannot be used; pilgrims can only view its two sealed arches from the Mount of Olives, the Kidron Valley, or the eastern wall path.
