부여 금사리성당

부여 금사리성당은 1901년 설립된 부여 지역 최초의 천주교 본당으로, 충남도 지정문화재인 옛 성당 건물이 지금도 남아 있다. 박해 시대가 끝난 뒤 금강 유역과 내포 언저리에 흩어져 살던 신자들이 다시 모여 공동체를 이루면서 본당이 세워졌고, 신자들은 직접 재료를 마련하고 손을 보태 예배당을 지은 것으로 전해진다. 옛 성당은 한옥의 목구조 위에 서양식 요소를 절충한 초기 성당 건축의 원형을 간직해, 프랑스 선교사들과 조선 신자들이 함께 만들어낸 토착화된 예배 공간의 모습을 보여준다. 기와지붕과 종탑, 소박한 목조 천장이 어우러진 건물은 화려하지 않지만 그래서 더 진실하게 그 시대 신앙을 증언한다. 백제의 옛 서울 부여 땅에 복음이 들어와 뿌리내린 과정을 보여주는 곳이기도 하다. 박해의 겨울이 지나고 신앙 공동체가 다시 싹을 틔우던 재건기의 이야기는, 포로에서 돌아와 성전을 다시 세우던 이스라엘의 역사를 떠올리게 한다. 한옥 지붕과 서양식 요소가 어우러진 외관, 그리고 소박한 내부 목조 천장을 천천히 눈여겨보자.
Geumsa-ri Catholic Church — Chungnam Buyeo-gun
Founded in 1901 as Buyeo's first Catholic parish, Geumsa-ri Church preserves its original sanctuary—a provincial cultural property blending Korean hanok timber construction with Western elements. Built in the rebuilding years after the persecutions, when scattered believers of the Geum River basin regathered into a community, the church is said to have been raised by the believers' own hands and materials. Its tiled roof, modest bell tower, and simple wooden ceiling show how French missionaries and Korean believers together shaped a worship space rooted in local culture, in the old Baekje heartland of Buyeo. Unadorned and honest, the building testifies to a community springing back to life after the long winter of persecution—like Israel rebuilding the temple after exile.
