제1산티아고장로교회 (산티시마 트리니다드)

산티아고 첫 장로교회 '산티시마 트리니다드'(제1산티아고장로교회)는 산토도밍고 거리 639번지, 옛 스코틀랜드인 교회였던 세인트앤드루스 성당 건물을 1946년부터 사용하고 있다. 이 교회의 뿌리는 발파라이소에서 데이비드 트럼불 목사가 반세기 가까이 다져 놓은 선교의 토양 위에서, 1861년 산티아고에 도착한 회중교회 선교사 나다니엘 포터 길버트 목사가 스페인어권을 향해 사역을 넓히며 시작되었다. 1868년 6월 7일, 단 열한 명의 신자로 '이글레시아 에반젤리카 칠레나'가 조직되었으니, 이는 칠레인 스스로가 세운 첫 개신교 회중이었다. 이듬해 6월 29일 나타니엘 콕스 거리에 첫 예배당이 봉헌되었으나, 1889년 화재로 전소되는 아픔을 겪었고 이듬해인 1890년 재건되었다. 이후 1908년부터 1940년대까지는 아베니다 브라실로 자리를 옮겨 예배를 이어 갔다. 한편 1883년에는 산티아고·발파라이소·콘셉시온 회중을 아우르는 칠레노회가 조직되고 장로교신학교도 함께 문을 열었으며, 1871년에는 첫 칠레인 목사가 안수를 받았다. 방문할 때는 스코틀랜드풍 옛 성당 건물이 품고 있는 이 오랜 신앙 계승의 발자취를 함께 되새겨 보길 권한다.
First Presbyterian Church of Santiago (Santísima Trinidad) — Santiago
The First Presbyterian Church of Santiago, "Santísima Trinidad," has occupied the former Scottish St. Andrew's Church building at Santo Domingo 639 since 1946. Its roots trace to Rev. Nathaniel Porter Gilbert, a Congregationalist missionary who arrived in Santiago in 1861 and extended Spanish-language ministry on soil that Rev. David Trumbull had spent nearly half a century preparing in Valparaíso. On June 7, 1868, just eleven believers organized the Iglesia Evangélica Chilena, Chile's first Protestant congregation founded by Chileans themselves. Its first temple on Nataniel Cox Street was consecrated on June 29, 1869, but a fire destroyed it in 1889, and it was rebuilt by 1890. From 1908 until the 1940s the congregation worshiped on Avenida Brasil before settling into its current building. In 1883 the Chile Presbytery, uniting congregations in Santiago, Valparaíso, and Concepción, was organized alongside a new Presbyterian seminary, and in 1871 the first Chilean national pastor was ordained.
