어농성지
어농성지는 한국 교회 최초의 밀사로 중국에 파견되어 조선에 사제를 모셔온 복자 윤유일 바오로와 그 일가 순교자들을 기리는 성지다. 초기 조선 교회에는 사제가 한 사람도 없어 신자들이 스스로 세례를 주고 성사를 집전하는 이른바 '가성직제도'의 한계를 절감했고, 이에 윤유일은 목숨을 걸고 국경을 여러 차례 넘어 베이징 주교에게 조선의 사정을 알리고 사제 파견을 청했다. 그 헌신의 결실로 1795년 중국인 주문모 신부가 조선에 몰래 입국했으나, 이 일이 발각되면서 윤유일은 그해 을묘박해 때 체포되어 매를 맞아 순교했고, 동생 윤유오와 사촌 등 일가가 뒤이어 신앙을 지키다 목숨을 잃었다. 사제 한 사람, 말씀과 성례를 모셔오기 위해 국경을 넘나들며 목숨을 건 평신도의 헌신은, 예배를 사모하는 마음이 얼마나 간절할 수 있는지를 절절히 보여 준다. 개신교 순례자에게도 이곳은 예배와 말씀의 소중함을 되새기게 하는 초기 교회 순교자들의 묘역이다. 소나무 숲 사이로 잘 조성된 순교자 묘역을 걸으며, 한 가문이 함께 드린 헌신을 조용히 기억해 보자.
Eonong Holy Site — Gyeonggi Icheon-si
Eonong Shrine honors Blessed Yun Yu-il, the Korean church's first secret envoy to China, and his kinsmen martyrs. The early Korean church had no priest at all, and its believers, having tried to administer sacraments themselves, keenly felt the limits of that arrangement; so Yun crossed the border repeatedly at the risk of his life to inform the bishop in Beijing and plead for a priest to be sent. His devotion bore fruit when the Chinese priest Fr. Zhou Wenmo secretly entered Korea in 1795, but when this was discovered Yun was beaten to death in that year's persecution, followed by his brother and cousin who held to the faith unto death. A layman dying to secure word and sacrament for his community shows how fiercely the early believers longed to worship. The martyrs' graves lie in a quiet pine grove; walk among them and remember one family's shared devotion.
