다락골성지
다락골성지는 성 최경환 프란치스코가 태어난 교우촌 터로, 한국의 두 번째 사제 최양업 신부를 낳고 기른 신앙 가문의 고향이다. 아버지 최경환은 신앙을 지키기 위해 여러 곳을 옮겨 다니며 교우촌을 이끌었고, 아들 최양업을 사제가 되도록 마카오로 유학 보낸 뒤 기해박해가 몰아친 1839년 서울에서 모진 매를 맞고 옥중에서 순교했다. 그렇게 아버지는 순교자로, 아들은 훗날 조선 팔도를 걸어 다니며 흩어진 신자들을 돌본 목자로 살았으니, 최씨 부자의 이야기는 세대를 잇는 신앙 전수의 힘을 뭉클하게 보여준다. 다락골 골짜기 안에는 병인박해 때 순교한 신자들의 시신이 밤중에 몰래 옮겨져 묻힌 서른일곱 기의 줄무덤이 나란히 남아 있어, 박해의 위험 속에서도 죽은 이를 거두어 묻어 준 신자들의 신앙과 사랑을 증언한다. 이름 없이 묻힌 순교자들의 줄무덤 앞에 서면, '이런 사람은 세상이 감당하지 못하느니라'(히 11:38)는 말씀이 절로 떠오른다. 지금은 최양업 신부가 태어난 새터 생가터가 복원되어 있고, 골짜기를 따라 줄무덤과 기념 시설이 이어진다. 새터 생가터에서 줄무덤까지 이어지는 고요한 골짜기 순례길을 서두르지 말고 천천히 걸어보자.
Darakgol Holy Site — Chungnam Cheongyang-gun
Darakgol is the home village of St. Choe Gyeong-hwan and of his son Fr. Choe Yang-eop, Korea's second Catholic priest — a father-and-son legacy of faith passed between generations. The father led refugee Catholic communities from place to place, sent his son to study for the priesthood in Macau, and was beaten to death in prison in Seoul during the 1839 persecution. So the father lived as a martyr and the son as the pastor who later walked the whole country tending scattered believers. In the valley lie thirty-seven row graves where martyrs of the 1866 persecution were secretly buried by night, testimony to those who dared, at great risk, to gather and bury the dead. Before those anonymous graves, the words 'of whom the world was not worthy' (Heb. 11:38) rise unbidden. Today the restored family home and the valley path invite unhurried reflection.
