Church of Santa María la Blanca — Palencia
The church of Santa María la Blanca in Villalcázar de Sirga is a 13th-century transitional Gothic fortress-church that tradition says was built by the Templars (tradition). Its grand scale, the finely sculpted south portal, and painted stone tombs stand out. Alfonso X the Wise recorded several healing miracles attributed to this Virgin in his Songs of Holy Mary (a documentary fact), showing it was a leading centre of medieval pilgrim devotion.
