오 세브레이로 산타 마리아 라 레알 성당

해발 약 1,300m, 프랑스에서 이어진 순례길이 갈리시아로 들어서는 첫 산정 마을 오 세브레이로에 자리한다. 산타 마리아 라 레알 성당은 9세기에 창건된 갈리시아에서 가장 오래된 카미노 성당으로 꼽히며, 켈트식 원형 초가집 팔로사(pallozas)가 남은 마을과 함께 카미노가 다시 험한 산으로 오르는 관문을 이룬다. 투박한 화강암 벽과 낮은 천장의 어둑한 내부는 천 년 넘게 순례자를 품어 온 자리의 무게를 전한다. 성당 안에는 이른바 '성체의 기적' 전설과 얽힌 성반과 성작이 보존되어 있다. 14세기 전승에 따르면, 눈보라를 뚫고 홀로 미사에 온 농부를 속으로 무시하던 사제 앞에서 성체의 빵과 포도주가 실제 살과 피로 변했다고 한다. 순례자의 마음을 울리는 이야기이지만, 이는 역사적 사실로 확증된 사건이 아니라 믿음을 격려하려 전해 내려온 경건한 전승으로 받아들이는 것이 정직하다. 개신교 순례자에게 이 산정은 여정의 새로운 국면이 시작되는 자리다. 긴 메세타를 지나 마지막 산을 오르며, 완주를 향한 초심과 낮아진 마음을 다시 붙들게 된다. 방문 팁: 새벽 안개와 일출 조망이 아름답고, 여름에도 산정은 서늘하니 방풍 옷을 챙기라. 미사 시간을 확인하면 지역 공동체의 예배에 함께할 수 있고, 팔로사 초가와 순례 박물관도 둘러볼 만하다.
Church of Santa María a Real — Galicia (Lugo)
At about 1,300m, O Cebreiro is the first mountaintop village as the French Way enters Galicia. Founded in the 9th century, Santa María a Real is counted among the oldest churches on the Camino, and together with the Celtic thatched pallozas it marks the gateway where the road climbs again into the hills. Its rough granite walls and dim, low-vaulted interior carry the weight of a place that has sheltered pilgrims for over a thousand years. The church preserves the paten and chalice tied to the so-called 'Eucharistic miracle': a 14th-century legend holds that as a priest inwardly scorned a farmer who came alone through a blizzard, the bread and wine turned into real flesh and blood. It is a moving story, but honesty asks us to receive it as pious tradition meant to encourage faith, not a verified historical event. For a Protestant pilgrim this summit marks a new phase of the road, where the first intention and a humbled heart are gathered again. Tip: dawn mist and sunrise views are lovely, summits stay cool even in summer, so bring a windproof layer, and the pallozas and pilgrim museum are worth a visit.
