코드파 산 마르틴 데 투르스 성당

아리카 남쪽 카마로네스강 계곡의 프레코르디예라, 해발 약 1,850미터의 마을 코드파에 자리한 이 성당은 1618년 문헌에 처음 등장하며, 지금 남아 있는 뼈대는 18세기 초에 지어진 것을 19세기 말에 크게 손질한 결과다. 돌 기초 위에 어도비 흙벽돌을 쌓아 올리고, 오리건 소나무로 지붕틀을 짠 뒤 함석을 덮었으며, 정교하게 돌을 깎아 만든 출입문과 세 칸으로 나뉜 석조 제단화(레타블로)를 갖춘 안데스 바로크 양식 건물이다. 이웃한 알티플라노 고원 성당들에 비해 고도는 낮지만, 같은 식민지 시대 아이마라·메스티소 신앙 공간의 계보를 잇는다. 지역 아이마라 후손들이 여전히 성당 축일마다 모여 전통 음악과 미사를 함께 올리는 풍경도 다른 알티플라노 성당들과 다르지 않다. 2015년, 푸트레의 산 일데폰소 성당 등 여러 알티플라노 성당과 함께 하나의 결정으로 국가기념물에 지정되었다. 코드파는 온화한 기후와 포도·과야바 농사로도 알려진 계곡 마을이라, 고지대 성당들을 둘러본 뒤 하루 이틀 머물며 여독을 풀기에 알맞은 곳이다.
Church of San Martín de Tours de Codpa — Codpa
In Codpa, a village in the Camarones River valley precordillera south of Arica at about 1,850 meters, this church is first mentioned in records from 1618; its present structure has an early-18th-century core substantially reworked in the late 19th century. Built on stone foundations with adobe walls, its roof frame of Oregon pine is sheeted in zinc, and it features a finely carved stone doorway and a three-section stone retablo, all in Andean baroque style. Though lower in elevation than its altiplano neighbors, it belongs to the same lineage of colonial-era Aymara-mestizo worship spaces. Local Aymara descendants still gather for traditional music and Mass on feast days, much as at the other altiplano churches. In 2015, it was declared a National Monument together with several other altiplano churches, including San Ildefonso in Putre, in a single group decree. Known for its mild climate and grape and guava orchards, Codpa is a pleasant place to rest for a day or two after touring the higher-altitude churches.
