전주 치명자산성지

전주 치명자산성지는 1801년 신유박해 때 순교한 '호남의 사도' 유항검과 그 일가 순교자들이 합장된 산 위의 성지다. Chimyeongjasan Shrine — Jeonbuk Wansan-gu
Chimyeongjasan Shrine in Jeonju is a mountaintop holy site where Yu Hang-geom, the 'apostle of Honam,' and members of his family martyred in the persecution of 1801 rest together. 'Chimyeongja' is an old word for one who bore witness to faith at the cost of life, so the very name of the mountain holds the lives of those who lie here. Yu Hang-geom was a leader who spread the faith through Honam, and his son Yu Jung-cheol and daughter-in-law Yi Sun-i were martyred together as a virginal couple who had restrained their marriage for faith's sake. That so many martyrs arose from one household is a rare thing, and the story of an entire family laying down everything the world offers for their faith is carved into the mountain's name.
