천호성지
천호성지는 박해를 피한 신자들이 완주 천호산 자락에 이룬 교우촌과, 병인박해 순교자들의 묘역이 함께 자리한 성지다. 1866년 전주와 여산 등지에서 신앙을 지키다 순교한 신자들의 유해가 이곳에 모셔져 있어, 오랜 세월 박해의 슬픔과 신앙의 소망이 함께 배어 있는 땅이다. 그러나 이곳이 특별한 진짜 이유는, 놀랍게도 박해 시대에 형성된 이 교우촌의 신앙 공동체가 지금까지 끊이지 않고 이어져 오고 있다는 데 있다. 박해의 칼날을 피해 산속으로 숨어든 신자들이 세운 마을이, 150년이 넘도록 한자리에서 세대에서 세대로 믿음을 물려주며 살아온 것이다. 이렇게 여러 세대를 이어 온 살아 있는 신앙 공동체의 존재 자체가, 그 어떤 기념비보다 값진 살아 있는 신앙 유산이라 할 만하다. 부활성당과 피정의 집, 그리고 순교자 묘역으로 이어지는 조용한 산길을 걸으며, 부모에게서 자녀에게로 대를 이어 흘러온 이 끈질긴 믿음을 묵상해 보라.
Cheonho Holy Site — Jeonbuk Wanju-gun
Cheonho Holy Site is a place where both a faith-village formed by believers fleeing persecution on the slopes of Cheonhosan in Wanju and the burial ground of martyrs from the 1866 persecution lie together. The remains of believers martyred for their faith around Jeonju and Yeosan in 1866 are enshrined here, so the land is steeped in both the sorrow of long persecution and the hope of faith. Yet the truly special thing about this place is that, remarkably, the faith community of this village, formed in the age of persecution, has continued unbroken to this day. A village raised by believers who fled the blade into the mountains has lived on for over 150 years in one place, handing down its faith from generation to generation. The very existence of such a living faith community, sustained across generations, is a living inheritance more precious than any monument.
