병촌성결교회
병촌성결교회는 6.25 전쟁 중이던 1950년 9월, 후퇴하던 공산 세력에 의해 어린이를 포함한 교인 66명이 집단 학살당한 한국 성결교회의 대표적 순교 성지다. 인천상륙작전으로 전세가 뒤집힌 그해 9월 말, 논산 성동면의 이 시골 교회 교인들은 신앙을 버리라는 강요를 거부하다 며칠에 걸쳐 죽임을 당했고, 희생자 중 상당수는 부녀자와 어린아이, 심지어 젖먹이까지 포함된 온 가족 단위였다. 살아남은 교인들은 원수 갚음 대신 용서를 택했고, 무너진 공동체 위에 교회를 다시 세웠다. 오늘날 교회 곁에는 순교기념비와 기념관이 세워져 66인의 이름과 그날의 증언을 이어가고 있으며, 한국 교회 순례자들이 끊이지 않고 찾는다. 초대교회 순교자들의 이야기가 먼 나라 옛날의 일이 아니라 우리 부모 세대의 역사임을 일깨우는 곳이다. '사망이나 생명이나... 어떤 피조물이라도 우리를 그리스도의 사랑에서 끊을 수 없으리라'(롬 8:38-39)는 고백이 실제 삶과 죽음이 된 현장이기도 하다. 기념관에서 66인 순교자 명단과 생존자들의 증언 기록을 꼭 살펴보고, 그 이름들 하나하나가 한 사람의 인생이었음을 기억하자.
Byeongchon Evangelical Holiness Church — Chungnam Nonsan-si
In late September 1950, as the tide of the Korean War turned, sixty-six members of this rural Holiness church in Nonsan—including women, children, and even infants, entire families together—were massacred by retreating communist forces for refusing to renounce their faith. The survivors chose forgiveness over vengeance and rebuilt the congregation on its broken foundations. A memorial monument and hall beside the church now preserve the sixty-six names and the testimony of that day, drawing a steady stream of pilgrims. Byeongchon makes the stories of the early martyrs feel startlingly near—this happened within living memory, to village believers who proved in their own flesh that nothing 'in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus' (Rom 8:38-39).
