강경 북옥교회

강경 북옥교회는 금강 포구의 근대 상업도시 강경에 남아 있는 1923년 건립의 한옥 예배당이다. 개항기 이후 전국의 물류와 사람이 모여들던 강경은 조선 후기 3대 시장으로 꼽히던 번화한 포구였고, 복음은 뱃길과 장삿길을 따라 일찍부터 이 도시에 전해졌다. 이 교회는 그렇게 들어온 신앙이 한식 목조 지붕 아래 예배 공간으로 꽃핀 초기 한국 교회 건축의 귀한 사례로, 국가등록문화재로 보호받고 있다. 서양 선교사들이 전한 신앙이 한국인의 손과 재료, 목수의 솜씨로 지어진 예배당에 담겼다는 점에서, 복음의 토착화 과정을 건축으로 보여주는 유산이다. 남녀가 유교 관습을 따라 자리를 나누어 앉으면서도 한 공간에서 함께 하나님을 예배했던 초기 교회의 풍경도 이 건물에 새겨져 있다. 강경 포구의 번영이 지나가고 도시가 조용해진 뒤에도 예배당은 백 년을 한결같이 그 자리를 지켰다. 흥망이 교차한 포구 도시에서 변치 않는 신앙의 본질이 무엇인지 생각하게 하는 곳이다. 근처의 옥녀봉 침례교 최초예배지, 강경성결교회와 묶어 강경 기독교 유산 도보 순례를 하기에 좋다.
Bugok Methodist Church, Ganggyeong — Chungnam Nonsan-si
This 1923 hanok chapel survives in Ganggyeong, once one of late-Joseon Korea's three great market ports on the Geum River, where the gospel arrived early along the trade routes. Built with Korean timber, traditional roofing, and the skill of local carpenters, it is a precious example of how the imported faith found expression in indigenous architecture, and is protected as a registered cultural property. The building still bears the memory of early congregations in which men and women sat apart by Confucian custom yet worshipped God together in one space. Long after the port's prosperity faded, the chapel has kept its place for a century—and it pairs well with the nearby Baptist first-worship site on Oknyeobong and Ganggyeong Holiness Church for a walking tour of the town's rich Christian heritage.
