안동교회 (안동)

1909년 설립된 안동교회는 경북 북부 지역 선교의 중심 교회로, 유교 문화의 본향이라 불리는 안동 한복판에 복음의 뿌리를 내린 상징적인 교회다. 퇴계 이황의 학맥이 살아 숨 쉬는 양반과 유림의 고장에서 복음을 전하는 일은 결코 쉽지 않았다. 교회는 성경과 한글을 가르치고, 배움에서 소외되었던 여성과 아이들을 교육하며, 병든 이를 돌보는 섬김으로 지역민의 마음을 조금씩 열어 갔다. 완고해 보이던 땅에도 신앙 공동체가 자라났고, 1937년 교인들이 힘과 정성을 모아 지은 화강암 석조 예배당은 지금도 예배 처소로 쓰이며 근대 건축 유산으로 평가받는다. 가장 단단해 보이는 땅에도 복음이 뿌리를 내려 백 년이 넘도록 열매를 맺는 이 모습은, 씨 뿌리는 자의 비유를 떠올리게 하는 산 증거다. 육중한 화강암 벽체가 주는 견고한 인상과 예배당 내부의 단정하고 정갈한 공간을 함께 느껴 보라.
Andong Church (Andong) — Gyeongbuk Andong-si
Founded in 1909, Andong Church became the hub of missions in northern Gyeongsangbuk-do, planting the gospel in Andong, the very heartland of Korean Confucian culture. In a town where the scholarly lineage of Toegye Yi Hwang still breathed, evangelism was no easy task. The church opened hearts gradually through Bible teaching, literacy, education for women and children long shut out of learning, and care for the sick. A faith community grew even in seemingly unyielding soil, and the granite sanctuary the congregation built in 1937 still hosts worship today, prized as modern architectural heritage. That the gospel bears century-long fruit even in the hardest ground is living proof of the parable of the sower.
