예수 시대의 배 (고대 갈릴리 배)

게네사렛 평야(막 6:53) 가장자리 기노사르에는 '예수 시대의 배'라 불리는 고대 목선이 전시되어 있다. 1986년 극심한 가뭄으로 갈릴리 호수 수위가 크게 내려갔을 때 진흙 속에서 드러난 길이 약 8.2m의 이 어선은, 예수와 같은 1세기에 바로 이 호수에서 사용된 것으로 확인된 유일한 잔존선이다. 배의 이름은 어떤 특정 인물과의 연관이 아니라 그 시대를 가리키는 별칭일 뿐이며, 예수나 제자들이 실제로 이 배를 탔다는 증거는 없다는 점을 정직하게 밝혀 둘 필요가 있다. 그럼에도 이 배는 베드로와 안드레 같은 어부 사도들이 다루던 배가 어떤 크기와 구조였는지를 눈으로 보여 주는 귀한 실물로, 풍랑을 잠잠케 하신 사건(막 4:35-41)과 깊은 데서의 기적적 어획(눅 5:1-11) 장면을 훨씬 생생하게 떠올리게 한다. 발굴 후 목재가 마르며 부서지는 것을 막기 위해 약 12년에 걸친 왁스 보존 처리를 거쳤고, 2000년부터 이갈 알론 센터에 전시되고 있다. 방문할 때는 낡은 배의 결을 들여다보며, 그 흔들리는 배 안에서 제자들이 만난 주님을 떠올려 보기를 권한다.
Ancient Galilee Boat (Jesus Boat) — Galilee
At Ginosar, on the edge of the Plain of Gennesaret (Mark 6:53), stands an ancient wooden boat called the 'Jesus Boat.' Emerging from the mud in 1986 when severe drought lowered the lake, this roughly 8.2 m fishing vessel is the only surviving boat confirmed to have been used on this very lake in the first century. Its name marks the era, not a link to any person; honestly, there is no evidence Jesus or the disciples used it. Still, it vividly shows the size and build of the boats fishermen-apostles like Peter and Andrew handled, bringing scenes like the calming of the storm (Mark 4:35-41) and the miraculous catch in the deep (Luke 5:1-11) to life. After excavation the timber underwent some twelve years of wax conservation and has been displayed at the Yigal Alon Center since 2000. Study the worn grain of the hull and picture the Lord the disciples met in a rocking boat.
